My Story

I had never heard of Homeopathy prior to moving to the United Kingdom. I began working for a Homeopath as an assistant and received treatment for the first time. I suffered from debilitating menstrual complaints that seem so far in the past now it is a distant memory. The curative results inspired me to begin the pursuit of Homeopathic knowledge for myself and others.

I continued to work in the Homeopathic Clinic for the next year gaini ng more experience and understanding of what Homeopathic medicine was capable of doing for each individual. It came time to leave the clinic and travel through Europe and India.

During these self discovery adventures abroad I began carrying a small Homeopathic first aid kit and began gaining clinical experience. I used the remedies for myself and others with acute illness (colds/flu) and first aide treatment. For example: I was the first on an emergency scene when a young man was knocked off his bicycle and suffered severe road rash on his face. The young man was in shock and bleeding profusely from the wound on his chin. Immediately after giving him one dose of one remedy his eyes focused, the bleeding began to slow down and he was able to speak coherently with me about the accident. The ambulance arrived on the scene and took over his treatment. I never saw or heard of him again but that experience also reinforced my devotion to the medicine.

While traveling through India I became drastically ill three times. The positive side of those experiences was it enabled me to pursue local Homeopaths some who barely spoke English. (Homeopathy in India, like the UK, has been a part of their Health Care options for decades). This was an incredible opportunity to become a devotee to Homeopathy once again. Each time I needed a remedy the result was quick and efficient to get me out of danger and back on the road. The power of those personal experiences motivates me to continue learning and studying Homeopathy for as long as I can in this life.

After being out of Canada for three years, I returned to Toronto and enrolled in a three year diploma program with the Toronto School of Homeopathic Medicine. I completed the first two years of the full time program and then I decided to take a break. I needed to find myself in the role of a Homeopath and seek further training before graduating from the program.

That process took about 8 years. During that time I pursued mentors from Germany and the UK with over 20 years experience, studied Materia Medica intensely, took part in a one year psychotherapy course, continued to gain clinical experience and studied nutrition. I also focused on my own Homeopathic treatment to relieve emotional and physical patterns that were interfering with my life. I also gained experience in other healing arts such as massage, chiropractic, acupuncture etc. This is extremely helpful when clients need more support during their Homeopathic care.

All of that life experience and extra studying empowered me as a person and a Homeopathic practitioner. As a result, I finished the final year with TSHM and graduated successfully from the Diploma Program in May 2009.

The most recent devotional experience with Homeopathy occurred while giving birth to my son. I labored at home for approx 19hrs and was not fully dilating. My contractions were so overwhelming at that point my midwife was about to call emergency transport to the hospital. In that moment the Homeopath I had assisting, gave me one dose of one remedy and it changed the course of action immediately. The intensity of my contractions decreased enough to allow my midwife to assist my body in opening for my son’s head to crown. He was then born vaginally at home safe and sound.

As a result, I am very passionate about offering every women Homeopathy as a resource during pregnancy and labor. The after care with Homeopathy was so easy and my recovery was very quick as well. This allowed my to be fully present with my demanding new born and physically able to keep up with the challenges he brought. Assisting birth and pre/post natal care will become the main focus of my practice over time.

My practice is on Quadra Island in a Wellness Centre which offers many tools for revitalizing the body and mind; such as massage, yoga, life coaching and physical fitness. Please refer to the Resource page for links to these services.

I have been open since June 2009 and look forward to offering my services to all people seeking health and awareness.

Jennifer Shelley, DSHM

I have been on the Homeopathic pursuit since living in Edinburgh Scotland in 1997. I am now a graduate of the Toronto School of Homeopathic Medicine (TSHM) diploma program. The program included in depth study of medical sciences (the basic applied sciences, medical and clinical  sciences - anatomy, physiology, pathology) nutrition, pharmacology, homeopathic diagnosis, homeopathic philosophy and therapeutics. TSHM is the only Canadian school offering a graduate program in Homeopathy to be accredited by the Council on Homeopathic Education.

I have been gaining clinical experience for 10 years through my own life, traveling abroad, studies (clinic hours with TSHM) and professional clients. I now own a small business called the Homeopathic Family Clinic on Quadra Island, BC. That is sponsored by the Business Futures program.

I am currently an associate member with the Canadian Society of Homeopaths and in the process of fulfilling the requirements to become a Registered Member. A registered member has passed the full requirements of this regulatory body.

Although a general practitioner, I have gained experience with female physical and mental health issues.
